JAPAN: A Specialized Listing of the Japanese Occupation of CHINA
Country: JAPAN
Condition: JAPAN: A Specialized Listing of the Japanese Occupation of CHINA
Description: A Special Item FROM THE ANTIQUARIAN & MODERNARIAN OF POSTAL HISTORY & PHILATELY Jack G. Nielsen, Ralph A. Weil, A Specialized Listing of the Japanese Occupation Stamps of China, 1995 46pp. in English The two authors, both advanced collectors of Japanese Occupation stamps of China, undertook this research study after identifying that the three specialized catalogs on the subject differed substantially in their listings of these stamps. The three catalogs are the Colour-illustrated Stamp Catalogue of China, commonly referred to as 'Chan' after its editor Chan Shu-hou;Ma's Illustrated Catalogue of the Stamps of China, commonly referred to as 'MA'; and the Japanese Stamp Specialized Catalog (JSCA). The stamps are listed in Chan catalog order with the corresponding catalog numbers for not only the MA and JSCA catalogs where listed, but also for the Scott and Stanley Gibbons catalogs. Therefore, the tables in this monograph not only provide information on the disparities in the listings amongst the five catalogs, but also provide a concordance between their catalog numbers. The contents include Japanese Ocupation stamps used in provinces in North China, Inner Mongolia, Central China, and South China. NO ILLUSTRATIONS *** NOT TO BE MISSED!!!

ITALY TO INDIA VIA SWITZERLAND, BULGARIA and IRAQ RARE AIR ROUTE, 1942
Country: ITALY
Condition: ITALY TO INDIA * RARE * VIA SWITZERLAND, BULGARIA and IRAQ RARE AIR ROUTE, 1942
Description: ITALY TO INDIA VIA SWITZERLAND, BULGARIA and IRAQ: 13 June 1942, Red Cross Postcard for mail to Italian Prisoners of War from Campello sul Clitunno (Perugia) to a Lieutenant of the Italian Army at Camp 24, Clement Town (Dehra Dun District), India. The Postcard was sent via air mail but the postage stamps affixed on it were removed by a censor officer at some point in transit. The removal of postage stamps is typical of this type of mail. The Postcard shows a circle 269 -I Italian censor mark as well as a circled handstamp UFFICIO CENSURA POSTA ESTERA I and straight line VERIFICATO / PER CENSURA, all struck in Rome. Furthermore, an octagonal "DHP / 6" Indian censor mark, and one Camp 24 censor mark (triangle-shaped) struck on arrival. The Postcard shows a rectangular stamper inscribed “POSTA AEREA PER PRIGIONIERI DI GUERRA/VIA CHIASSO - SOFIA - BAGDAD” struck in red ink on the address side of the Postcard. This air mail route for POWs mail was short-lived and only a very small fraction of the mail was stamped with “POSTA AEREA PER PRIGIONIERI DI GUERRA/VIA CHIASSO - SOFIA - BAGDAD”. Docketed in addressee's handwriting 20 October 1942. In January 1942, the Italian and British governments reached an agreement on the establishment of an air post service to and from their respective POWs being held in countries outside Europe. Due to war developments the routing for this air service was changed a few times with the view of selecting the safest and shortest possible route. [Signed in pencil by expert Dr. Migliavacca] Very Fine quality for the rare Air Routing hand-stamp, and fine quality in general.

ITALY TO INDIA VIA BULGARIA and TURKEY RARE AIR ROUTE, 1942 Exceedingly RARE
Country: ITALY
Condition: ITALY TO INDIA VIA BULGARIA and TURKEY RARE AIR ROUTE, 1942 Exceedingly RARE
Description: ITALY TO INDIA VIA BULGARIA and TURKEY: 3 August 1942, Red Cross Postcard for mail to Italian Prisoners of War from Campello sul Clitunno (Perugia) to a Lieutenant of the Italian Army at Camp 24, Clement Town (Dehra Dun District), India. The Postcard was sent via air mail but the postage stamps affixed on it were removed by a censor officer at some point in transit. The removal of postage stamps is typical of this type of mail. The Postcard shows a circle "217 - I" Italian censor mark as well as a circled handstamp "UFFICIO CENSURA POSTA ESTERA I", and straight line VERIFICATO / PER CENSURA, all struck in Rome. Furthermore in India, an octagonal "DHP / 5" censor mark, a straight line DHP/51 struck on arrival in India; and a Camp "24" censor mark (triangle-shaped). The Postcard shows a rectangular stamper inscribed “POSTA AEREA PER PRIGIONIERI DI GUERRA/VIA SOFIA - ISTANBUL” struck in red ink on the address side of the Postcard. This air mail route for POWs mail was short-lived and only a very small fraction of the mail was stamped with “POSTA AEREA PER PRIGIONIERI DI GUERRA/VIA SOFIA - ISTANBUL” much rarer than the elusive GERUSALEMME type which had a relatively longer life. Docketed in addressee's handwriting 5 November 1942. Migliavacca] Very Fine quality for the rare Air Routing hand-stamp which is found in most cases in a lesser quality, and fine overall quality. A HIGHLY DESIRABLE piece of History.
